Matyazo, Rwanda

This project will increase availability and reliability of water in the Matyazo community.

The immediate community focus is providing a sustainable water source for the Murago and Mugumira villages and the Murago Primary School near the Matyazo Sector Office. Projects will include water source development, conveyance, and storage. It is anticipated that 2,690 people including students will benefit from these improvements. Part of project sustainability includes community partnership and operation and maintenance training.

Matyazo is located in the Western Province of Rwanda, 36 miles (57 km) northwest of the capital Kigali. There are approximately 60,000 people in the Sector, mostly subsisting on agriculture in the mountainous region. Most of the community’s water is sourced from wells and natural springs.
